The separation process where a quantity of a mixture (gas, solid, liquid, or suspension) is divided during its transition to another phase. It goes into a number of smaller quantities (fractions) in which the composition fluctuates according to a boiling point in petroleum products. This is the foundation of the ability of petroleum to be heated in the vapor phase and gets separated in composition during the liquid phase.
