EMERGENCY EYEWASHES / SHOWER EQUIPMENT AND THE ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 – 2014 STANDARD

Are you aware that ANSI guidelines state that Eye Wash/Drench Showers need to be located 10 seconds or 55’ from contaminates or hazardous materials? And they should be on the same horizontal plane, with no obstructions? Long or short! And if bottom loading/unloading and additional shower should be located at grade as well.

While ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 is considered a voluntary standard, OSHA often uses it as a guide when inspecting facilities. As a result, this standard has gained significant importance within in the safety industry; and, by not complying with the standard, OSHA may elect to impose site penalties.

In addition, these units must dispense tepid water. Tepid is defined as “A flushing fluid temperature conductive to promoting a minimum 15-minute irrigation period @ 60 to 100 degrees F (16-38 degrees C)”. Generally, temperatures higher than 100 degrees F may cause chemical interactions with the skin and cause further damage, and at 60 degrees and below hypothermia becomes a concern.

“In every industry that handles chemicals and hazardous materials, the proper selection of emergency eyewash stations is critical. The ANSI Z358.1-2014 standard sets forth guidelines for how to properly place these safety equipment products in order to provide maximum protection from chemical exposure.”

With a Variety of eye/face washdown bowl and safety shower options, we can find the perfect combination to fit your drench shower needs. Our portable eyewash station is offered with mounting brackets to easily fit within your existing platform system and provide a wash station near the source of potential hazards.

ANSI guidelines state that an Eye Wash/Drench Showers need to be located 10 seconds or 55’ (16.8m) from contaminants or hazardous materials. Eyewash stations need to be on the same horizontal plane with no obstructions.

Heat Trace Shower

Tempered Water Solutions for safety eye/face washes and drench showers ensure that, in an emergency, your employees will be comfortable during the 15 minute flush of tepid water required by ANSI Z358.1. Consumes energy vs. use energy, no need to worry about hypothermia from freezing cold water or being scalded by water that is too hot. Use energy only while the unit is in use – it’s unnecessary to keep a water tank heated 24/7. Easy to install – just add water and power – only requirements are one electrical connection and a cold water line. Quality is unmatched with premium features that come standard and exceed the specifications of any application.
